Sometimes the Bible simply records history, that is, an account of how someone has behaved, but without immediate commentary on the propriety of that behavior. In those passages, we must be careful about drawing inferences regarding God’s disposition toward the matter, always remembering Paul’s admonition “not to think beyond what is written” (I Corinthians 4:6).
